[ARCHIVED] Drug dealer heads back to prison for the fourth time

This is Kelly Clark

KEY WEST, July 25, 2019 – A Key West man is returning to prison for the fourth time after pleading no contest to two counts of selling cocaine.

On July 23, Monroe County Judge Mark Wilson sentenced Kelly Clark, 35, to 83 months, or just under seven years, in Florida State Prison, to be followed by three years of probation. Assistant State Attorney Christina Cory represented the state.

In one case, Key West police set up a controlled purchase of narcotics on June 16, 2017, to respond to residents’ complaints of drug sales in the area of Emma Street. A confidential informant was used to buy $50 worth of cocaine from Clark, who was in a sport utility vehicle. Following the transaction, Clark was taken into custody (as was another man in the SUV for whom there was an outstanding arrest warrant).

The other case stemmed from July 11, 2017, also based on residents’ complaints of drug sales, in the area of Fort Street and Truman Avenue. Police again set up a controlled drug buy using a confidential informant, who bought $100 worth of crack cocaine from Clark.

Clark has previously served three stints in state prison – three years, two years and two years – for robbery with a weapon, sale of cocaine, possession of cocaine, trafficking heroin and resisting arrest. Those charges were from Miami-Dade County. His latest release was in November 2016.
