The Monroe County State Attorney’s Office has been helping out manning the U.S. 1 checkpoint into the Keys to stem the spread of the coronavirus.
Upper Keys Investigator Roy Bogue has volunteered each Monday from 6 a.m. to 6 p.m., in the heat. Investigators Chris Weber, Frank Zamora and Abraham Vallejo have also worked the checkpoint.
Despite widespread publicity that the Keys are closed except for residents, workers and deliveries, others are still trying to get in and being turned away without proper documentation. The checkpoint, as well as one on Card Sound Road, was put in place to minimize the possibility of people with the virus entering Monroe County.
