FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE APRIL 7, 2006 Peeping Tom Is Jailed A Key West peeping Tom is today staring through bars at the Monroe County Detention Center instead of through neighbors’ bedroom windows according to investigators with State Attorney Mark Kohl’s office. Investigators jailed Kenneth Garceau, 25, today for alleged voyeurism and trespassing at Trumbo Point last month. After 11:00 PM on March 16, KWPD Officer John Padron was called to the Navy housing about “a suspicious incident.” Scott and Delores Boyle were sitting on their back porch when they noticed a figure “climb onto a roof and peer into windows” of a neighbor’s home, according to police reports. The Boyles ran to the rear of their house to alert their female neighbor who was unwittingly on display. The two reportedly saw a shirtless Garceau run past their building and into his residence. When confronted by Navy Police, Garceau “openly admitted to being on the roof and looking through the window,” say police reports. His explanation was straightforward: “I thought it was a good thing to do at the time,” Garceau said. Officer Padron filed a report, but did not arrest Garceau. “Only certain misdemeanor offences, like domestic violence, warrant immediate detention,” explained Andrew Kempel, the State Attorney investigator who arrested Garceau today. The State Attorney’s office was able to arrest the alleged voyeur today because his victim made a complaint against him. The two first-degree misdemeanor charges could cost Garceau as much as $2,000 in fines and two years behind bars if he is convicted. |
